Monterey -- Joseph Favazza passed away peacefully at his home on March 5th with his family beside him.Ê He was born in Pittsburg, California 89 years ago to Gaetano and Vita Favazza, moving to Monterey with his family as a very young boy. He attended Bay View School and Monterey high School and at the age of 19 he joined the Army during World War 11 serving for three years. Returning home he fished for three years on the "Star of Monterey" then became a plasterer and then a contractor.
In 1949, Joe married Josephine Billeci and they celebrated their 63rd anniversary in December of 2012.Ê They have three sons; Tom (Rosemary), Joel, John; five grandchildren, Elisa (Mike), Crista, Julie (Matt), Brianna and Johnny and seven great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Michaela, Isabella, Gabriella, Jaden, Logan and Zephyr. He also leaves his brother, Peter (Josephine); his sisters, Jenny Mateik, Stella Preston, Lorraine Riddleberger and Josephine Jilich and many nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Sara Moss, Lucy Owens and Mary Larson.ÊÊ
Joe belonged to the Elks Club, Compari Club, Italian Catholic Federation, and The Festa Italia.ÊÊ He enjoyed going on cruises and playing golf. Upon retirement, he played almost every day with the local Monterey group at the Pacific Grove Course.
Joe will be missed.Ê He was a wonderful, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. A special thanks to the VNA Hospice nurses for their wonderful care and support.
