CARMEL, CA – Regino A. Bactad was born on February 28, 1927 in San Narciso, Zambales, Philippines. He lived a long and happy life with his family. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1945 in search of adventure and a better life. Regino (known as Ray) spent 20 years in the U.S. Navy and retired in 1964. During the time he was in the Navy, Ray traveled extensively to different countries. After retirement from the service, he worked as a barber and hair stylist. His career as a barber spanned more than 40 years. He was known as one of the best around. Ray worked six days a week until the end.
,In 1956 he met Zenaida Habal whom he married. They lived in San Pedro, California until 1978. Thereafter, they moved to the Monterey Peninsula. Ray and Zenaida lived a busy, but peaceful life in Carmel until the present. Blessed with six children, Ray became the patriarch of the family including all of Zenaida's siblings and their families. He was known as a fastidious dresser, a ballroom dancer, and an excellent cook. Ray loved being home, cooking and helping everyone in his family, especially within his family circle. Ray was loved and highly esteemed by all his family members. He especially loved and doted on his three grandchildren.
Ray is survived by his wife of 57 years, Zenaida; their children, Richard Ray Bactad of Monterey, Christine Alexander of Sumner, Washington, Robert Bactad of Carmel, Ronald Bactad of Carmel, Charlene Mangan of Prunedale and Cheryl Enea of Carmel; and grandchildren, Britanny Brown, Mikayla Bactad and Cosimo Enea.
Visitation will be held at the Mission Mortuary in Monterey on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 4:00pm. The Vigil will then follow at 7:00pm. Funeral Mass will be held at the Carmel Mission Basilica, 3080 Rio Road, Carmel, CA 93923 on Friday, April 5, 2013 at 11:00am. The burial will take place at San Carlos Cemetery in Monterey after Mass. A reception will follow.
