BURNSVILLE, NC – Bruce Strickland, 60, passed away on May 22, 2013, in the care of his family after a brave battle with cancer. Though born in Alabama,
he spent his formative years locally in California, graduating from Pacific Grove High School in 1971. For the past 35 years, he has resided near Burnsville, where he raised his children.
A well-respected general contractor and carpenter in his community, Bruce also was an avid bass
fisherman, winning several contests, and enjoyed gourmet meals, fine wine, blues music and worldly conversation. He was always willing to help those in need, from plowing snow out of a neighbor's
driveway to rides for charity on one of his tricked out Harleys.
Bruce was preceded in death by his father, Dick Strickland of Monterey. He is survived by his mother, Nora Strickland of Monterey; his children, Meagan Mitchell and Tyler Strickland and granddaughter, Madison Mitchell, all of North Carolina; and his
sisters and brother, Marion Getz of San Francisco, Deborah Strickland of Seaside, Karen Strickland of Carmel Valley, and Brian Strickland of Salinas.
A celebration of Bruce's life will be held in South Toe, North Carolina, on June 15, 2013.
