Michael Blaine Gida Obituary
Michael Blaine Gida passed away peacefully at his family's home Sunday, November 17, 2013 after a long illness. He was 63.
Michael was born in Ravenna, Ohio on September 14, 1950 to Catherine Grant. They later moved to the Monterey Peninsula where Michael spent his childhood and early adulthood until finally settling in Big Bend, California. He loved the mountains and the mountain-man life.
In early 2003, Michael moved back to the Monterey Peninsula, helping raise his son, Christopher and pursuing his calling from God, evangelism. Michael made several trips to Rwanda and Burundi, taking many chances with his life to spread the Gospel.
In his spare time Michael enjoyed playing with his son, reading, movies and walks on the beach. He was an Army veteran of the Viet Nam war and a member of the Salinas Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Michael is survived by his son, Christopher Gida of Salinas; daughters, Meshell Jimenez of Prunedale and Kristina Davenport of King City; sisters, Wendy (David) Craig of Monterey, Victoria (David) Green of Big Bend; brothers, Duane (Meljoy) of Seaside, Frank (Shari) of Prunedale and Guy of Las Vegas; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Thank you to Heartland Hospice for helping guide us through the process, and to Wendy and David for their selflessness, love and compassionate caregiving to help Michael gently leave this world.
Services will be held at the Salinas Seventh Day Adventist Church, 46 Villa St., Salinas on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 3:00 p.m.
