MONTEREY, CA – Our dear mother, Marion F. Baroni, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born May 22, 1932 in Oakland, California. At the young age of 16 she came to Monterey and stayed. She worked in the canneries, Red's Doughnuts and the Poppy Restaurant. She met her husband, Michael R. Baroni, and they were married at the San Carlos Cathedral on April 16, 1950. Their four daughters fondly remember her strong will and generous loving heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Michael R. Baroni; brothers, Thomas and Robert; sisters, Patricia and Jeri O'Brien; and her precious grandchild, O'Brien Swanston. She is survived by her daughters, Rosanne M. (Don) Whitaker, Maureen J. (Chuck) Boogay, May Higuera, and Mona M. Swanston; grandchildren, Zephyr (Butch), Amber (Bill), Ryan, Evan, Javier (Heather), Myla, Thomas (Lauren), and Brenna; her great grandchildren, Torian, Serene, Sylar, Hayden, Sophia, Savannah, Hannah, Paige and Errol. She leaves behind her companion, David T. Yamamoto and her loving dog, Peanut.
Marion worked as an Elementary Secretary for over 20 years for MPUSD and Hertz Rental Cars as a Lead Transporter. She faithfully volunteered for Religious Education Classes at San Carlos Cathedral and was a dedicated volunteer for the American Cancer Discovery Shop. She was an active member of Catholic Daughters.
Marion loved playing Bunco with her daughters, going to the movies with friends and trips to casinos to play the slot machines with David. She played poker with her family on New Year's Eve, the night before she died, and she won! Marion was a winner at life! She will always be remembered for her loving and giving ways that she showered on family and friends.
A Rosary will be held at Mission Mortuary at 450 El Estero in Monterey on Monday, January 6, 2014 at 7:00 pm. A Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 9:30am at San Carlos Cathedral in Monterey. A reception at the Parish Hall across from the Cathedral will follow at 11:00am.
