Janet Haynes Lord died peacefully at her home at Carmel Valley Manor on September 11, 2014 at the age of 86.
Born in Waterville, ME, Janet was preceded in death by her parents Emma Bogle Haynes and Lowell Q. Haynes and brothers Irving and Lowell Haynes.
Janet earned her undergraduate degree at Colby College (1950) and her R.N. and master's degree in nursing management from Yale School of Nursing (1953). While at Yale, Janet met graduate medical student John Dutch Lord. After nursing school, she started her career at the University of California San Francisco.
Janet married John in 1955 (deceased 2004), and after John completed his medical residency, they settled in Pacific Grove, CA in 1959 where John joined the Central Medical Group as an internist. Upon their divorce in 1974, Janet and their five children moved to Carmel Valley Village. She resumed her nursing career, working in extended care at Beverly Manor and later was Director of Nursing at Natividad Medical Center until her retirement.
Janet was a founding member of Pebble Beach Pines Golf Club (now Spyglass Hill Golf Course). She and her daughters were for many years involved with Patsy Wester's Ballet Studio. Janet was an avid gardener who loved roses and lilacs, and later she was a member of the Carmel Valley Racquet Club.
She is survived by her children Susan Lord Bovey (Woodland, CA), Jane Lord (Haarlem, The Netherlands), Patty Eisenhaur (South Londonderry, VT), Paul Lord (Carmel, CA) and Pam Lord (San Diego, CA); and four grandchildren.
A private reception was held in her honor. The family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses, staff and residents of Carmel Valley Manor for their care and friendship.
