Stan Minor, age 91, died peacefully in Carmel, CA on July 20, 2017 after a long illness. The son of Gladys and Stanley Minor, he was born and raised in Seattle. Stan attended Lakeside School and Hotchkiss School. During WWII, Stan was assigned to the Navy V-12 program at the University of Washington. After the war, he attended Yale University, graduating in 1948 with a degree in English. He remained, well into his 80s, able to recite by heart the opening lines of The Canterbury Tales, in the original Middle English. After Yale, he served in the Marines, reaching the rank of Captain. Stan married Elizabeth Seaver (Betsy) in 1950 and had their first daughter, Chrissie in 1951. They moved back to Seattle in 1951 where Stan worked in retail and then as a television director for the local NBC affiliate. The family grew to include Tim in 1955 and Marianne in 1958. Stan entered the investment world, first with Pacific Northwest Co. and then with Kidder Peabody. He served on the boards of the Seattle Children's Home and the Seattle Opera, and as a caucus chairman for the Republican Party. In 1976, Stan and Betsy moved to Bainbridge Island. He grew up spending summers there and was delighted finally to return. After Betsy died, Stan moved to California in 2011 where he remained until his death. Stan is survived by his sister Marylou Kravik, children Chrissie Markovitz (David), Tim Minor (Cindy), and daughter Marianne Minor. His grandchildren are Ben (Emily) and Adam Markovitz , Tucker and Lily Minor, and Addie and Cole Bortz. His family expresses its great appreciation for Jeanne Marino, Stan's caregiver, for her loving support throughout his final illness, as well as to The Cottages of Carmel and Visionary Health Care for their kind attention. A family memorial will be held in Seattle at a date to be determined.
