Raymond R. Cato
February 24, 1950 ~ August 13, 2006

MONTEREY – Ray, age 56, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, August 13, 2006. He was born February 24, 1950 in Monterey, CA, and maintained residency in his childhood home with his wife, Cheryl. Ray was an outstanding baseball player in his younger years. Upon graduation from Monterey High School, he followed the family tradition as a brick mason. His stone work was his signature and legacy throughout Monterey County. Those who knew Ray will remember his original dance style, "who let the dogs out". There will only be "dry ears" in Monterey County now.
He was a "true" friend and knew no strangers and was loved by all.
His laugh and the twinkle in his big blue eyes will be very much
missed.
He is survived by his wife/best friend of 24 years Cheryl, his daughter Michelle (Marshall) Larkin, his step-sons Richard (Ann) Watts and Michael Watts, his brother Bill (Luanne) Cato, sister Karleen (Kyle) Graxiola-Russell, his step-mother Maryann Cato, his beloved grandchildren Ashley Magallanes, Jonathan Watts, Christen Larkin and numerous relatives. Ray was preceded in death by his mother Rosemarie Coopersmith-Graxiola, his father Bob Cato, his beloved "Ma" Velma Cato and grandfather William Cato.
At his request there will be no services, but a "Celebration of His Life", will be Saturday, August 19 at 3 p.m. at the Seaside American Legion, Playa Street, Seaside, CA.
