DAVIS, Mr. Ben, "CHICKEN POP", a resident of Montg., AL expired Sun., Apr. 26, 2015. Funeral services will be held Sat., May 2, 2015 at 11:00 AM from Lily Bapt. Church, Letohatchee, AL with Pastor Fletcher Fountain officiating. Interment will follow in the churchyard cemetery with the staff of Phillips-Riley Funeral Home directing. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral services.

DAWKINS, FRANK Dawkins, Mr. Frank B. "FB", formerly of Montgomery, AL passed away April 22, 2015 in Macon, GA. Funeral services will be held May 2, 2015 at 12:00 Noon from St. John's A.M.E. Church with Pastor James E. Arnell, officiating.

Diener, Urban  
DIENER, URBAN Urban Lowell Diener was a thoughtful, reserved man of German decent. He was born in Lima, Ohio, May 26, 1921. He died April 26, 2015, exactly one month prior to his 94th birthday. He was educated in the public schools of Celina, Van Wert, and Fremont, Ohio, where his father was the superintendent of those school systems. He received his B.S. degree from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, M.S. degree from Harvard, and his Ph.D. in Botany and Plant Pathology from North Carolina State in Raleigh. Urban worked for Gividan Chemical Company in New York City and Clemson before going to Harvard. While in New York for two years he began volunteering to work with Boy Scouts of America. He was an Eagle Scout and in later years was awarded the Silver Beaver. In 1952, he became a member of the Plant Pathology Department at Auburn University where he retired as Professor Emeritus in 1987. He was the world's leading scientist in plant aflatoxin. Urban married Jacqulyn Maund Diener in 1956 and they lived in Auburn where Jackie was a teacher while continuing her education. She received the Doctor of Education degree for AU and taught approximately 6,300 students. They attended the Auburn United Methodist Church where Urban sang in the choir for 48 years. They were active in the Joel McDavid Class. During their 58 years together they traveled in Germany, France, Switzerland, England, Denmark, the Netherlands, Holland, Mexico, Thailand, Canada, and throughout the United States. Urban's hobbies included stamp collection, coin Collecting, photography, deep sea fishing, and growing camellias. He was a Mason and Shriner. He was an active member of the Auburn Lions Club. He continued to be a leader in the Chattahoochee Boy Scouts of America. He lived the scout oath/promise: On my honor (1) I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country, to obey the Scout law, (2) to help other people at all times, (3) to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight. Urban was a devout Christian. Urban is survived by his wife, Jackie and his two sisters' children: Betsy Ellison, Jimmy Hicks, Martha Bonim, Jean Lrezel and David Secrist; special godchildren Amanda "Mandy" Harris Massengale, James "Kent" Harris, Jr.; and 35 other godchildren. Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Auburn United Methodist Church with visitation from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow at Auburn Memorial Park. Dr. George Mathison and Reverend Charles Cummings will officiate. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the charitable fund of the Auburn Lions Club or the Boy Scouts of America.
