Mary Bozeman

Bozeman, Mrs. Mary Enola Evans, 70, departed this life February 19, 2014 at her home in Union Springs after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Born in Union Springs on April 2, 1943 to Florence Griswold Evans of Shopton and the late M.T. Evans, Enola was raised in Shopton and educated in the public schools of Bullock County, graduating from Union Springs High School in 1961. She attended Montevallo College (now the University of Montevallo) and Modern Business Academy. Thereafter, and in addition to her duties as a wife and mother, she was employed by GMAC and then the Bullock County Revenue Commissioner's Office, retiring after 26 years of service to the county.

At the time of her death, Enola was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church, the church she attended as a child and as a young woman. She was baptized and joined the First Baptist Church of Union Springs as an adult.

Enola was an accomplished cook, photographer and gardener and was a long-time member of the Chunnenuggee Garden Club of Union Springs. She enjoyed her close and extended family, her pet dogs and being outside.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Trainum Dendy of Grady.

Left to cherish her memory are her mother, Florence Griswold Evans; her husband of 42 years, Donald L. Bozeman; her daughter, Laura (John) Smith of Tallassee; her son, Paul Bozeman of Shopton; her beloved grandchildren, Samuel, Sarah and William Smith of Tallassee; her brother, Cliff (Lee) Evans and sister, Becke Evans Blanton, all of Shopton; sisters-in-law, an aunt, numerous nieces and nephews, great-nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Mike Griswold, Doug Rogers, Vic Griswold, Jim Griswold, Howard Thomas, and Bill Pace.

Visitation at Gray Funeral Home in Union Springs will be Friday, February 21, 2014 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Funeral services directed by Gray Funeral Home will be conducted at Hopewell United Methodist Church on U.S. Highway 82 in Shopton at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 22, 2014, with Rev. Pat McWhorter and Rev. Kent Dendy officiating. Interment will immediately follow at the Hopewell Cemetery.

Memorial donations in Enola's name may be made to Hopewell United Methodist Church, the Methodist or Baptist Children's Homes or the Bullock County Humane Society.
