CUMMINGS, Robert James "Bubba Nub" was eulogized on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Cummings Funeral Home Chapel, Montgomery, AL. He operated Bubba's Barbeque Hut in Highland Village for many years before closing its doors due to a stroke. He chose to be a Master Chef and enjoyed every minute of creating culinary delights that satisfied his family, friends, and customers.
His barbeque sauce was so unique that customers have commented that they have not had any barbeque as good as his since the Hut closed.
Bubba was an Army
veteran, who after his discharge, he entered and graduated from Alabama State University. He was a Prince Hall Mason and a 59-year member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
When he was not practicing his craft, Bubba was an avid sports fan who could be found on any given day listening to sports on the radio, watching sports on television, and conversing with family and friends about sports, all at the same time.
Survivors include his wife, Ora H. Cummings; his daughter, who he often referred to as "my one child", Beverely Cummings Smith and her mother; grandson, Orin Patrick Smith; granddaughter, Erin Smith Griggs; great-granddaughter, Saniyah R. Smith; Cousins whom he raised as sons, Michael and Derrick Jones; Brothers, Wade Cummings, Jr. and Levi Cummings; sister, Carolyn Cummings; Brother-in law, Thomas C. Wright; Best Friends Clinton "Bo" and Murray Lee Boswell; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family appreciates the caring acts of those like Nash Cooley, Percy and Zenobia Blackmon, Kim McQuiddy, The Siler Family, and the brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
