NORTHINGTON, Sandra Kay, 60, passed peacefully into heaven on Monday, May 26, 2014, at her home in Prattville, Alabama. Her family and friends will always remember her unwavering faith in God, her boundless love, and her ability to always put others before herself. She ministered to everyone she met, and you were a better person if you knew her.
Sandra was born on May 6, 1954, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Elsie Bush Skelton and the late John Skelton. She grew up in Holt, Alabama, with six brothers (Raymond, Jimmy, David, Chester, Johnny, and Jerry) before meeting the love of her life, Leslie Smith Northington, while working together at Kelly's Hamburgers. While their engagement lasted only 3 months, their marriage spanned 43 years, included 6 children, and had enough love to last two lifetimes. She had a full-time job making her house a home and enjoyed cooking, sewing, attending sports events, taking family vacations, and raising her babies.
She was preceded in death by a son, Peter Northington, in 1983. Sandra is survived by her loving husband Leslie "Les" Northington of Prattville; three sons, John (Tonita) Northington of Homewood, James (Felecia) Northington of Deatsville, and Stephen (Brittany) Northington of Prattville; two daughters, Pamela (Ricky) Cassidy of Brookwood, and Juanita Northington of Prattville; her mother, Elsie Skelton of Holt; two brothers, Chester (Sherry) Skelton of Northport, and Jerry (Cindy) Skelton of Brookwood, and nine grandchildren; Kyle Moore, Kori Moore, Jordan Northington, Jacob Northington, Joshua Northington, Reanna Paige, Kate Northington, Wesley Northington, and Ava Northington and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral service will be held at Ridout's Prattville Chapel presided over by Pastor Greg Melvin on Friday, May 30, 2014, at 4pm with burial to immediately follow Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers include: John Northington, James Northington, Stephen Northington, Chester Skelton, Zack Warren, and Griffin McGalliard, with Jerry Skelton, Mike Murphy, Allan Little, Tom Carr, Billy Phillips, and Pete Northington as Honorary Pallbearers.
