Pastor Lover James Barnes, Sr., a resident of Montgomery, AL, a Gulf War veteran, and the pastor of Apostles' Doctrine, Inc., departed this life on Wednesday, January 1, 2014. His parents, Minister Willie James, Sr. and Lela Mae Lee, and Wade Brown, Jr. and Barbara Peoples Martin, preceded him in death. His older brother, Jessie James Barnes, also preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of twenty-nine years, Lenora D. Barnes, and their three children, Satoya (Maurice Sr.), Lakiesha (Robert), and Lover Jr. (Shenika), all of Montgomery, AL. His daughters blessed him with four beautiful, healthy, and well-loved grandchildren, Maurice, Jr., Timothy, Lauryn, and Jordyn. Their two godchildren, Joshua and Catelyn Jones, and their two "adopted" sons, Joshua Carrawell and Seth Luke Lanier, also hold him dear.

Also remaining are his six siblings, Willie James, Jr. of Troy, AL; Cora M. Barnes and Eddie B (Barbara) Barnes, both of Montgomery, AL; George P. Barnes of Elmore, AL; and Nathaniel S. Barnes and Annie Sandridge, both of Montgomery, AL. Two aunts, Annie P. Wilkins and Ernestine Barnes, and one uncle, Robert E. Lee, also cherish his memories. His homegoing service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 11:00 am at St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church, located at 706 E. Patton Ave., Montgomery, AL 36111, where Rev. Farrell Duncombe is the pastor. Elder Maurice A. Clanton, Sr. will be officiating. Pastor Barnes's body will lay in repose at the church one hour prior to the service. His interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park, 9504 U.S. 331, Montgomery, AL 36105, with Ross-Clayton Funeral Home, Inc. directing. The funeral home will have viewing hours at its facility on Friday, January 10, 2014.
