Mary Easterling Obituary
Mary O Easterling, 90, of Montgomery, was called to glory on February 12, 2014. She was born August 21, 1923 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Carl and Willie Owen. After her marriage in 1946 to Durward W Easterling in Montgomery, AL, she began work at the new law firm of Capell and Howard.

She served as the legal secretary to attorney Jack Capell the entire duration of her 54 year career, gaining local, state, and national recognition for her dedication to the Firm. Upon her retirement in 2000 Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright declared May 31, 2000, "Mary Easterling Day" in her honor.

She was a charter member of Woodley Baptist Church, now Thorington Road Baptist Church, and upon her retirement began volunteering her skills in the church office.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother as well as her husband of 56 years, Durward Easterling. Survivors include her daughter and son in law, Carol and Ken Wassenar of Plano, TX, granddaughter and her husband Kristen and Billy Straw of Little Elm, TX, two great-grandsons Trey and Andrew Straw, of Little Elm, TX, and many dear friends around the Montgomery area.

Pall Bearers are John Andrews, Hon. John Capell, Richard Lawler, William Martin, James Milton, Jim Overall, and Tom Wilbanks. The family also acknowledges with great appreciation the assistance provided by Mary's caretaker Rita Copeland, the staff of Amedisys, and the friends that offered ongoing companionship and help.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 15th from 5:00-7:00 pm, with a memorial service Sunday, February 16th at 2:00 pm, Brother Wade Rials and Eddie Newton officiating. Both activities will be held at Leak Memory Chapel.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Thorington Road Baptist Church, 450 Ray Thorington Rd, Montgomery, AL 36117. On line condolences may be made at www.LEAK-MC.com.
