ANDREWS, Robert Clay "Bob", passed away on Friday, February, 14, 2014 at his residence in Deatsville at age 80. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 16, at 2:00 p.m. from New Home Baptist Church near Elmore, with Rev. Eric Sutton and Rev. Dave Burns officiating, and eulogy given by Ed Ewing. There will be a graveside service on Tuesday, February 18, at 10:00 a.m. in Greenwood/Serenity Gardens in Montgomery. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 Saturday at Gassett Funeral Home in Wetumpka. Pallbearers will be David Helms, Tommy Adair, Paul Queen, Larry Stephens, Austin Lightfoot and Michael Hatchett. Bob's first wife of 32 years, Hazel Jean Andrews, preceded him in death in 1988. They had three boys, Richard, Keith and David (Mary Ellen) Andrews. In 1992 he met and married his loving wife Barbara Andrews. "Bobbie" had three children from a previous marriage, Jay (Jennifer) Johnson, April (Austin) Lightfoot and Ashley (Ike) Livingston. He is also survived by eight precious grandchildren, Morgan Johnson, Jamie Jean Andrews, Madison Johnson, Lauren Lightfoot, Ivey Lightfoot, Kirsten Livingston, Sarah Andrews, and Isabel Livingston; three loving sisters, Dee Green, Faye Hicks, and Mary Pritchett, and his beloved pets, Gracie and Beckie. Bob was a retired Captain with the Alabama Dept. of Public Safety. He started his career in 1957 as a road trooper in Chatom, Washington County, AL. In 1959 he requested and received a transfer to Foley, Baldwin County, AL. In 1964 he was promoted and was transferred from Foley to Decatur, AL and served as Assistant Post Commander. In November 1966, after the November election, Bob was appointed security to elected Lt. Governor Albert Brewer and family. After the unfortunate death of Gov. Lurleen Wallace, in 1967, Albert Brewer was elevated to Governor of Alabama. Bob continued his job in security and was promoted to Lt. in 1969. At the end of Gov. Brewer's administration, Bob was re-assigned as an undercover agent in Public Safety in the first Narcotics Division. In 1974 he was promoted to the rank of Captain in the ABI Division and assigned as agent in charge of ABI agents in South Alabama in 1979. Bob retired from Public Safety in 1979. He was a member of Oliver Masonic Lodge #334 in Thomasville, AL for over 50 years. He was also a member of Alabama Peace Officers for over 50 years. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, and served in Korea. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Gassett Funeral Home in Wetumpka.
