WALDEN, John Clayton, 85, passed away Sunday, February 9, following a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Gayle, his daughter Deanne (Keith) Howell of Richmond, Texas, his son Kirk (Jennifer) Walden of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, his step-daughter Rosemary Walden of Montgomery, Alabama, eleven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Dr. Walden had a long and distinguished career in education. He began as a public school principal and teacher in Monrovia, California. In 1966 he moved into higher education, serving as a professor and department head in the College of Education at Auburn University until 1988, when he joined the faculty in the School of Education at Auburn University at Montgomery. He retired as professor emeritus in 1993, and spent two years working with the Alabama Council for School Administration and Supervision. Throughout his 40-year career, Dr. Walden published extensively in the area of school law and earned numerous awards for outstanding leadership and service.
