Ann Braswell Watlington, 75, passed away Monday, February 10th after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late William David Braswell and Altha Johnson Braswell. Her beloved husband of 40 years, Harry Eugene Watlington, III and her sister, Hazel Braswell Lassiter, preceded her in death. Ann was involved in the Women's Alabama Golf Association for many years. She worked on the girl's junior committee before serving on the WAGA Board of Directors as Junior Director, and also served as Area Director for the Montgomery area. Ann's first love in golf was always junior golfers. She helped them learn to enjoy the game, with her main focus on teaching them the rules. Ann was a founding Trustee of the WAGA Women's Scholarship Trust. The trust was established to help young women with an interest in golf who needed financial assistance to obtain a college education. Ann served as the scholarship liaison between the Trustees and the scholarship recipients and was affectionally known as "Miss Ann" by her girls. When the WAGA Scholarship Trust became the Alabama Golf Association Women's Scholarship Fund, Ann continued to serve as a committee person for this scholarship she helped create and build. Ann was the recipient of the WAGA Special Award for her many years of service and dedication to the Women's Alabama Golf Association. She was also the recipient of the SWATCA Spirit Award presented annually at the competition held between the states of Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, North Carolina and Florida. Ann participated in state and local golf tournaments for many years. She was a fierce competitor but her favorite part of every tournament was the camaraderie with the many friends she made. Ann was appreciated and loved by so many for her no-nonsense, straight forward attitude. She will be greatly missed. Survivors include two nieces, Gwen Lassiter Myers (Bill) of Washington, NC and Jo Ann Lassiter Kearns (Marshall) of West Hartford, CT, two great-nephews, Austin and Todd Myers, two great-nieces, Ann Ragan and Cooper Kearns, and a host of dear friends. Graveside Services will be held at Greenwood Cemetery on Monday, February 17th at 1:00 p.m., with the Rev. Paul Turner officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 12:00 p.m. at Leak Memory Chapel. Pallbearers will be Johnny Brownell, Zach Brownell, Matt Ezell, Cliff McLeod, John White and Locke White. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Women's Alabama Golf Association Scholarship Fund, 1025 Montgomery Hwy, Ste 210, Bham, AL 35216.
