James Mozingo Obituary
James Troy Mozingo, age 76, a resident of Montgomery for over 30 years, passed away on March 20, 2014. He was born in Wayne County, Mississippi, on January 21, 1938, the third youngest of eleven children (seven boys and four girls) born to John Foster Mozingo and Maybell Smith Mozingo. After 20 years of service he was retired from the City of Montgomery in 2005, as Assistant Chief Housing Codes Inspector. Before moving to Montgomery in 1983, Troy owned and operated a retail business in Marion, Alabama. He is survived by the love of his life and best friend, his wife of 52 years, Carolyn Rutherford Mozingo originally from Marion, and his children Lisa Mozingo Tolar (Andy) and James Flynn Mozingo (Caterina Ardon), both of Montgomery. He is also survived by a son, David Troy Mozingo (Patricia David) of Scott, Louisiana. Troy was a loving grandfather to his grandchildren, James Andrew Tolar ("Drew"); Emily Caroline Tolar; James Rutherford Mozingo ("Ford"); William Jackson Mozingo ("Jack"); and Coleman Ardon Mozingo ("Cole"), all of Montgomery; and Jesse Christopher Mozingo of Lafayette, Louisiana, and David Cory Mozingo of Scott, Louisiana. Troy is also survived by one brother, Robert Earl Mozingo (Lenora Crocker) of Millbrook, Alabama; one sister, Edna Mozingo Brooks (Joseph W., d) of Montgomery; his sisters-in-law, Marie Langley Mozingo (Harold, d.) and Barbara Rutherford Redding (Johnny, Sr.), all of Montgomery; brother-in-law, James Ezra Rutherford of Marion; his mother-in-law, Mattie S. Henderson of Montgomery; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Troy was a devoted member of Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church for over 30 years where he served faithfully until the last two years of his life in which his health steadily declined. He served as an usher, Children's Church Ministry for almost 20 years, and served three terms on the Board of Stewards. His sweet smile and gentle spirit endeared him to all those he came in contact with. A celebration of his life will be held in the main sanctuary of Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at 2:00 pm, with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Troy's beloved minister, Dr. Tim Thompson will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be his grandsons Drew, Ford, Jack and Cole and his nephews Robert Mozingo, Jr. ("Bobby"), Keith Mozingo, Johnny Redding, Jr., Jedadiah Rutherford and Matthew Rutherford. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 24th, in the Parlors at Frazer from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Although flowers are appreciated, memorial contributions are encouraged to Frazer Memorial UMC, Missions Fund.
