Obituary Condolences

GIBSON, Richard G., (96), died at home in Montgomery April 10, 2014. A Colorado resident for more than 85 years, he and son Robert moved to Montgomery June 2013. Richard was pre-deceased by his first wife Marie Christiansen Gibson, second wife Helen Gibson and grandson Lee Richard Story. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Gibson Story (Lee) and son, Robert W. Gibson of Montgomery; granddaughters, Kathy Story Follensbee (Bruce) Orlando FL, Katie Story Johnson (David) Winter Garden FL, Kris Story (Jim Healy) Westport CT, Kim Story Winslow (Craig) Weston CT; great-grandchildren, Reed, Bryce & Kayla Follensbee; Kenzie, Marissa & Megan Healy; Kyra, Kenna, Jake, Kelsey & Kali Winslow; Kelly & Daniel Johnson; sister, Jean McIntosh of San Diego, CA; and extended family of nieces and nephews.

Richard proudly served in the Navy's Pacific Campaign as a Radarman 1st class, during WWII. He was a hog farmer for 28 years, a volunteer fireman, a 32nd degree Mason and member of Al Kaly Shrine. His interests were bowling, Broncos games, and traveling with Helen world wide. Known as "King" to his grandkids he became "3G" (great-grandpa-Gibson) to the great-grandchildren. They were intrigued with his stories of his childhood, the Navy and the war, his hog farming experiences and many travels. One word always comes up when talking about him: "amazing".

At his request, there will be no service. Memorials can be made to his grandson's memorial scholarship fund: Lee R Story Memorial Scholarship, c/o A.U.M. Office of Advancement, 7515 Halcyon Summit Dr. Suite 102, Montgomery, AL 36117.
