Evelyn Gentry Rhodes, died peacefully on May 21, 2014 at Belmont Village, her home in Nashville. She was born in Prattville, Alabama on August 27, 1924, the oldest child of the late Elizabeth and William Gentry. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Rhodes Jr. and brothers Robert, Dalton, William and Harry Gentry.
She was a former member of the Cloverdale Church of Christ and a current member of Grace Pointe Church of Christ in Montgomery, Alabama. She worked for and retired from the Veterans Administration Regional Office in Montgomery. In 1973, she was one of only three secretaries in Montgomery to achieve recognition as Certified Professional Secretary. She served as a board member for AGAPE of Central Alabama. Her greatest earthly love was for her family to which she devoted her life. Though she steadily lost her ability to see, she continued to live life to the fullest enjoying friends and family.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Jennie Rhodes Scott of Nashville, TN and Tamara Rhodes Fox (Bart) of Pike Road; 5 grandchildren, Michael and Neely Scott, Nashville, Lauren, Davis and Meredith Fox, Pike Road; her brother, Marvin Gentry, Prattville and special niece, Naomi Wallace and her entire family.
The family would like to thank the staff of Belmont Village and her special friend, Gus Davies whom she loved, for the excellent and dedicated care given to her.
Visitation with family and friends will be held from five o'clock until seven o'clock on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at GracePointe Church of Christ. A celebration of her life will be held at Grace-Pointe Church of Christ on Friday, May 23, 2014 at eleven o'clock. A private burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
