Joseph W. Armistead (Joe), age 69, died peacefully at home in Ramer on November 2 after a long battle with brain cancer. He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Armistead (Betty), and his brother, Samuel E. Armistead (Gene).

Born June 8, 1943, Joe graduated from Montgomery County High School, Auburn University, and Troy State University. He worked in public education in Montgomery County for over 30 years. He held teaching and administrative positions at Capitol Heights JHS and Highland Gardens ES. He was principal at Catoma ES and Dannelly ES. Upon retirement, Joe was devoted to his family, work with his church (Ramer Methodist Church), and the Ramer Rose Society.
A memorial service to honor Joe will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Ramer Methodist Church. Rev. Cooper Stinson and Rev. Lynn Nesbitt will officiate.
