Martha Davis Harris, age 100, a life-long resident of Russell County Alabama, died Saturday, March 9, 2013 at her daughter's home in Montgomery, AL. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 3:00 pm EST from First United Methodist Church of Phenix City, AL with Reverend Jim Meadows officiating. Visitation will be from 1 - 3 pm EST prior to the service at First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. A visitation and reception will be held in memory of Martha John's beloved Mother, Martha Harris, on Friday, March l5, from 5p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Parlor of Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church in Montgomery, AL.

Martha was born in Pittsview, AL on February 21, 1913 to the late Brantley Blackston Davis and Pearl Irene Calhoun Davis. Phenix City has been Martha's home since the mid 1930's. Martha graduated from Seale High School and in 1937 from Columbus Nursing School. Martha was a Registered Nurse and served as a Russell County Department Nurse. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Phenix City. She was preceded in death by her husband, J D Harris, who died in 1953 while serving as the Mayor of Phenix City, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Millard Davis and sisters, Hazel Whatley, Grace Benson and Willie Dudley.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Martha John and Bill Allison of Montgomery, AL and two granddaughters, Martha Alisa Allison of Auburn, AL and Yancey Jane Allison of Como, MS. Serving as Pallbearers are Bubba Roberts, Albert Howard, Jason Newsome, Kerry Curtis, and Varner Head. Honorary Pallbearers will be Emmett Tice, Sammy Howard and Cecil Curtis.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations in Martha's honor be sent to Wesley Gardens Methodist Home 1555 Taylor Road Montgomery, AL, 36117.
