Grace Elizabeth Piazza Troncale, died in Birmingham on July 1, 2013. She was 98 years old. A native of Birmingham, Grace was a resident of Vestavia Hills for the past 40 years. She and her husband, Charles Troncale owned and operated a grocery store and three hotels in downtown Birmingham. They lived in Gadsden for a short time after their marriage and then moved to Birmingham 70 years ago.

An active member of St. Paul's Cathedral after moving to Birmingham, she was a member of the alter sodality; the PTA at St. Paul's school, the PTA at John Carroll Catholic High School. She became a supporter of the Consolata Sisters ministry in the Birmingham diocese. After her husband became a permanent deacon in the Birmingham diocese she was active with him in ministry to senior citizens. They belonged to the Equestrian Order of the Knights and Ladies of the Holy Sepulchre for the support of the ministries of the Church in the Holy Land. In later years she was a member of a sewing group at Our Lady of Sorrows Church that make shawls and lap warmers for the sick and blankets for infants.
Her husband, Charles, died in 1990. She is survived by her son, Msgr. Charles Troncale, Pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Tallassee, AL; her daughter, Dr. Theresa Ann Newell (Bruce) of Sewickley, PA and her son, Dr. Joseph Troncale (Lisa) of New Holland, PA; her sister, Angela Cashio, Vestavia; ten grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren. Grace is the daughter of the late Giuseppe Piazza and Margherita Iannelli who came to Alabama from Bisaquino, Sicily in 1913.
Visitation will be at St. Paul's Cathedral on Friday, July 5 between 9:30-10:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham at 2:30 p.m.
