Doris Stevens Obituary
4/2/1926 - 7/12/2013

A long time resident of Mountain Brook, Doris Broadway Stevens was born in Montgomery and graduated from Dothan High School where she was a majorette and alternate drum major. She was preceded in death by her brother, Lamar Broadway; mother, Gladys Kubilis; husband of 47 years, Cecil; and grandson, Todd. Mrs. Stevens leaves behind her son, Richard (Gail); granddaughter, Regan; and numerous nieces and nephews. The four cornerstones of Doris's life were her faith, her love of her family and friends, and her passion for cooking and gardening. Services will be Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham with visitation from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Suggested memorials include the Cecil and Doris Stevens Scholarship at the University of Alabama Honors College, Tuscaloosa, Alabama; the Todd Stevens Scholarship at Samford University, Birmingham, AL; and the senior adult ministries of Brookwood Baptist Church or Shades Mountain Baptist Church, Birmingham, AL. The family gratefully acknowledges the loving care provided for many years by Doris's nurse, Sylvia Walker, and the friendship and encouragement of Bill Turner from Shades Mountain Baptist Church.
