God has called home an angel for many. Chief, your strong, yet loving direction and commitment to excellence created great men and women who were blessed to fall under your guidance. "Timing" is a phrase that is appropriate beyond music and your timing was impeccable. You provided many with opportuninties otherwise not seen. Your legacy, as well as your name shall remainn on the tongues of many for decades.

Rest well thy good and faithful servant.

Mr. Duncombe was my neighbor for 27 years. He was always so kind and helpful. He always looked out for his neighbors and would always pull my trash can in every Monday and Thursday. He will be missed.

I thought that Mr. Duncombe was the most handsomest black man that I had ever seen back in 1970 at Montgomery County High School in Ramer, Al. He wore a suit and tie every day. A classic, patient and professional gentleman who never lost his cool. I was in the Marching Band during this era. in a little town called Ramer.I don't believe that no one disliked Mr. Duncombe. Everyone loved and respeced him, students, co workers and administrators. Sorry to hear of his passing. I never heard anyone having anything negative to say about Mr. Duncombe.I hope now he is playing and directing music for Jesus in heaven. Catheleen Hooten McCoy

Mr.D was like family and the protector of our neighborhood. He will always be remembered with great fondness because he was truly a kind man. May God bless you and your family with strength and bonding love. We grieve along with you.

Mr. Duncombe was such a strong leader and supporter. Thanks to him, I was able to earn my Bachelor's degree while participating in one of the best marching bands ever. I will never forget my audition for the band and how excited I was to learn I had a full scholarship! I could have never thanked him enough for believing in me. My sincere condolences to the Duncombe family and all those whose lives he touched.

Livingstone's Band was legendary during the tenure of Mr. Duncombe. I am so glad that I was a Blue Bear during the times that Mr. Duncombe directed our band. We also had a phenomenal football team during those days. I love to refer to those days as the glory days. The Duncombe family has the sympathy of my family during this sorrowful time. I am so sorry to hear of his passing but I am so proud to have been a part of his legacy at LC!!

I worked with Mr. Duncombe on work study for two years and a summer school. He was a wonderful person and a great band director. I will never forget the first year he came to Livingstone and we went to Winston Salem State and blew their band away! The LC band has not been the same since he left. Rest In Peace Mr. Duncombe and God grant the Duncombe family peace during the sorrowful time.

King.

God directed you to come to John F. Kennedy High School in Cleveland, Ohio and bless me with a full band scholarship, to play trumpet, become a "Screaming Eagle" and Marching Blue Bear in the Livingstone College Marching Band. My life was forever changed. The bonds of brother and sisterhood still exist today. I am now a retired educator; extending the legacy of one the great educators, tutors, mentors and friend. May God's continued blessings be with the family and all who knew and loved "Chief".

Dear Mr. Duncombe: You will never know just how many young people and people everywhere you have affected and had a most positive effect on. Your struck rules have helped a lot of us just to survive the day to day things that we must all face. From training young adults all across the south in the basics of music and discipline in addition to encouraging a Tony award winning producer/musician and artist of the highest caliber sets you head and shoulders above the rest. And your kindness and understanding is as much a part of you and yours as the rest of the best of the south. I will miss you.
