Robert Jenkins Obituary

Robert C. Jenkins, of Lansdale, passed away on October 30, 2012 at his residence at Brittany Pointe Estates. He was 90. He was born in Lansdale and was a member of the Lansdale High School class of 1940, where he was the treasurer. He was a sergeant in the Army during World War II, where he spent 27 months in Europe. He also served during the Korean conflict and was stationed at the Biological Warfare Center in Frederick, Maryland. In 1950, he married his wife Jane (nee May) and was married for 56 years when she passed away in 2007. He graduated from Drexel University with a degree in chemical engineering and was a Drexel University Golden Dragon. He was a member of the American Legion. He was part of the Indian Guides of the YMCA, along with his son Ken, and served as Advancement Chairman in the Boy Scouts of America Troop 48 in Glenside. He was a member of the Glenside Lions for 48 years, and as a member of Lions international, is a Melvin Jones Fellow, in recognition of past service o the Lions. He was a longtime and active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Glenside, having served on the Church Council and as Church Treasurer. For the past few years he has been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lansdale. He enjoyed stamp collecting and was an active member of the Buxmont Stamp Club. He was an avid fisherman and ever since childhood has kept a detailed record of every fish he caught, including size, weight, location caught, and bait used and that list exceed 12,000 fish. A memorial service was held November 12 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Glenside. Interment was private. Robert is survived by his son Ken, who resides in China, a nephew Dennis Kline (Bonnie) of Sumneytown, PA and four nieces Christine Bauman from Pennsburg, PA, Donna Sobjak (Bernard) of Bechtelsville, PA, Carla Levy (Brian) of Palm, PA, and Annette Leidy (Michael) of Green Lane, PA. Arrangements were made by the John R. Freed Funeral Home in Glenside.
