Tighe, Steven Edward* - Elkins Park
Steven E. Tighe of Elkins Park Steven Edward “Bug” Tighe, age 35, of Elkins Park, PA, born on June 17, 1980, passed away suddenly on January 20, 2016. Survived by his parents, Joseph A Tighe lll and Joyce L (Camillo) Tighe, his brothers, Joseph A Tighe lV (Elizabeth) Andrew P Tighe (Megan), niece and nephew, Elora and Andrew. Also survived by his grandmother, June (Humphreys) Stockdale, his aunt, Marlene (James) Spark, uncle, Paul Camillo, cousin, Kathryn Stubanas, and his former wife, Kathleen Pagan. Steven lived his life freely. He received degrees in Computer Science from the University of Pittsburgh and Environmental Science from Florida State University. He was the manager of McKinley Tavern in Elkins Park, but his love was always the sea. He loved sailing, snorkeling and SCUBA-diving. He earned his Captain’s license and was a Master Diver. Steven traveled around the world, to Sweden, South America, Africa, India, China, Vietnam and Cuba. He even met Fidel Castro. He spent two summers on Ossabaw Island in Georgia working for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources collecting data on nesting sea turtles. He taught SCUBA-diving and sailing in both Florida and the British Virgin Islands. Steven was capable, quiet and calm. He took joy in little things. He loved nature and wildlife. He could fix anything. He had incredible wit, and everyone who met him liked him. Florida was calling him back, and after tying up loose ends at the tavern and getting a final okay from his cardiologist, he planned to move back to the warm weather and ocean breezes. Services are private. If you wish to contribute in Steven’s memory, you can do so to The Ossabaw Island Foundation or to the gofundme site: Keep Sandy on Ossabaw. Steven Tighe: “beloved son and brother, SCUBA Steve, adventurer, and jack of all trades.” You will be missed.
