Anne Marie (McCormick) Burkhart

Anne Marie Burkhart (nee McCormick) 93, of Downingtown and formerly a long time resident of Oreland and Ambler, PA passed away on October 25, 2012. She was taken care of by the kind staff at St. Martha Manor for the last years of her life. Anne was a member of St. Anthony of Padua in Ambler, PA for many years and enjoyed Monsignor McHenry's Bible Study group. She made casseroles for St. John's Hospice until she was 87 years old. Until her retirement at 65, she was the Secretary to the Principal at Fitzwatertown Middle School. Many students knew and loved her and enjoyed regularly visiting her candy jar. Anne was a volunteer at Chestnut Hill Hospital for 25 years. In her retirement, she belonged to the East Oreland Senior Center where she supervised the ceramics program. She helped found the first library in Oreland, PA and her love of books was passed down to all her children. She also loved knitting and needlepoint and her family cherishes all the heirlooms she has left behind. She was a wonderful friend to so many. Her deep faith and sense of humor will be an abiding legacy to all who knew her. Anne was the beloved wife of the late John W. Burkhart; devoted mother of Elizabeth Delaney, Nancy Salerno, Linda Burkhart-Cohen (Elliot), Katherine Sabol and Robert Burkhart; loving grandmother of Robert Delaney (Catherine), Andrew Delaney (Elizabeth), Megan Delaney Kane (Ray), Matthew and Mark Salerno and Brianna Cohen. "Grannie Annie" was fortunate enough to have 7 great-grandchildren; Jack, Will, Ben, Drew, Sarah, Gavin and Lauren. She is also survived by her sister, Grace Murphy. Relatives and friends celebrated her Funeral Mass Saturday, November 3, 2012 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Ambler, PA. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Philadelphia, PA.
