Charles James "CJ" Hamburg

Charles James "CJ" Hamburg, 96, a resident of Westminster Woods in Huntingdon, PA, and formerly of Franklin Avenue in Hatboro died on October 25th at the Woods following a slow decline in his health. He had been married to the former Margaret Evelyn Smith for 67 years until her death in 2006. Born in Philadelphia, as the eldest son of Charles David and Estella (Anthony) Hamburg, he graduated from Hatboro High School in the Class of 1934. His two brothers, Allen E. Hamburg, MD and Warren K. Hamburg, preceded him in death. Mr. Hamburg is survived by one son and two daughters: Charles D. Hamburg, and his wife, Ruth R. Hamburg of Doylestown, PA, Carol H. Swigart and her husband, Charles B. Swigart of Huntingdon, PA, and Ruth L. Hamburg, and her partner, Leslie C. Herod of Oakdale, CA; five grandchildren, Charles D. "Fritz" Hamburg of Havertown, PA, Kyle W. Hamburg of Perkasie, PA, Carrie Swigart-Lindskog of Woodbridge, CT, Jennifer S. Newman of Chambersburg, PA and John C. Swigart of McLean, VA and ten great-grandchildren.. "CJ" was the former owner of Bonair Foundry Company. and Hatboro Castings. He enjoyed membership in the W.K. Bray Lodge #410, F&AM and the American Foundrymens' Association. A former Scout Troup and Explorer Post leader he was also an avid birdwatcher, gardener, and an outstanding "Mr. Fix-It.". His devotion to his family and friends was unending. A member of the Stone Church of the Brethren in Huntingdon, he spent Sunday mornings shepherding residents to their church services. During his time at the Woods he started the Saturday Morning Breakfast Club for residents. A private graveside service at Whitemarsh Memorial Park will be held at a future date at the convenience of the family. Online condolences and guestbook signings are possible through John B.
