Ellen Elizabeth Assman

Ellen Elizabeth Assman a lifelong resident of North Hills, died Thursday, April 4th. She was 93. She is survived by her sons and their wives Bill and Margaret of Saratoga Springs, NY (with daughters Casey and Shannon) and John and Freda of Abington. She was the proud grandmother of 7, and great grandmother of 7. Her husband of 65 years, William R. Assman, Sr. died earlier in 2013, but now they are reunited once again. Ellen was born in Glenside in 1919, and but for a short 7 years, lived her entire life in North Hills. She attended North Hills Elementary and graduated from Abington High School. She remained extremely active in the community and the school through her son's attendance and involvement in school, sports and community activities. Known for her kindness, combining her skill of crocheting baby blankets, pot holders, hot pads and comforters, many people will remember Ellen as they look in their kitchen's and family rooms and see her functional art in their home. She workied for Paul Koff Architects of Philadelphia, International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers and Beaver College. Along with her family, her love for hers dogs kept her young. Ellen's family want to extend their personal appreciation to the neighbors on Tennis Avenue, who never hesitated to help Mom and Dad out when they needed it. Mom and Dad always spoke of them by first name, whether we knew them or not. In her eyes, they were the Assman's extended family. A memorial service honoring her life will be held in the near future, and coordinated by her sons. Her request is that memorial donations be sent to Bucks County SPCA, P.O. box 277, Lahaska, PA 18931. Arrangements by John R. Freed Funeral Home, Glenside.
