Garrett "Alan" Shoemaker

Garrett "Alan" Shoemaker age 75, died November 24 after his battle with cancer. Alan was born July 10, 1937, in Sellersville, PA at Grand View Hospital. He lived in his home in Green Lane for 45 years. He was the son of the late Garrett H. Shoemaker and the late Margaret Harr Shoemaker. Alan graduated from Souderton High School in 1955 and played trumpet in the high school band. He graduated from Drexel University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering June 1965 and then worked at firms including Philco Ford and Vishay. Alan was a long-time active member of the National Rifle Association and the Lions Club. He also owned and operated a successful firearms business in Green Lane, "Shoemaker's Hillside Gun Shop," and enjoyed the sport of target shooting, firearm repair, and safety course instruction. He loved sports and was an excellent skier and tennis player. He loved his farm which he acquired in 1967 and lived there for the rest of his life. He enjoyed the outdoors and spent most of his days chopping wood and maintaining his beloved home. He is survived by five children: Diana, Marcia, Marc, Kara and Greg; his brother, Robert; six grandchildren, nephews, cousins, and many friends. A private service at his home will be followed by interment at Zion Memorial Gardens. Goodbye for now dear father, brother, and friend.
