Katharine A. Bacon

Katharine A. (Pawlyk) Bacon. 67, of Horsham, died December 20, 2013, at Abington Memorial Hospital, of complications from pneumonia. Widely known as "Katie," she was an active Member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Glenside, for over 40 years. In addition to volunteering at the church's thrift shop and bi-annual rummage sales, she was also an avid caretaker of the church gardens, a stellar soprano soloist in the choir and a member of the St. Peter's folk group. She especially enjoyed participating in the church women's dinners and annual weekend retreats. Katie was born in Orange. NJ and later lived in Dayton, Ohio. In 1964, she graduated from Cheltenham High School, Wyncote (PA) prior to attending Kutztown University (PA) where she further developed her creative penchant as an art major, Potential clients were well aware of the perennial waiting list for her long-running professional cleaning service that she launched and operated-but even after retiring last year, Katie would always make herself available to lend a helping hand. whether it be friends, church duties or simply someone in need. Her self-sacrificing ways included myriad behind-the-scene chores for which she sought little if any recognition. Katie was also a faithful friend of the animal world as exemplified by her generous caregiving instincts and fondness for the family's pet cats, backyard birdlife, and a stray that had gravitated to the door. Her conscientious "cat person" affinity likewise made Katie eagerly sought-after as a dependable cat sitter when friends were away. She was a member of the Delaware Valley Amateur Astronomers Association and also enjoyed cooking as well as entertaining friends. Katie is survived by her husband. Bill Bacon, with whom this past summer she helped celebrate the 25'" anniversary of a loving marriage. In Bill's words, "Katie's strong devotional caring for others was remarkable - -even when it was to her own detriment." She is also survived by her sister, Linda Kuzynski. of Campbell CA. Services will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Glenside. on Saturday, January 18, at 10 a.m., with a luncheon following in the auditorium.
