Mildred Fling(1925 - 2014)

Mildred (Birsner) Fling, 89, formerly of Harleysville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Dock Terrace in Towamencin. She was the beloved wife of the late Lt. Col. Graham J. Fling Jr to whom she had been married for more than 68 years. Born on January 6, 1925 in Philadelphia and raised in Ardsley, she was the daughter of the late Edward Henry Birsner and Mary (Kascur) Birsner. She graduated from Abington High School in January, 1942, and then worked for the Reading Company as a secretary until her marriage to the love of her life in March, 1944. Her husband was a United States Air Force officer and pilot, and during his career she moved with him to many places around the globe, always creating a warm and inviting home for her family. After his retirement from the Air Force, she and her husband settled into their new home in Harleysville where they lived for 35 years until their move to Dock Woods Community in 2007. Mrs. Fling and her husband were long-time active members of Wentz's United Church of Christ. They both added their wonderful voices to the church choir for more than 23 years. Her accomplishments as a seamstress and knitter were well-known, and her beautifully crafted American Girl doll clothes and Christmas ornaments and decorations were a staple of the annual church bazaar for many years. She was also a member of the Quilters Circle at Wentz's. She enjoyed cooking and baking, playing the piano, spending time with her family, and traveling with her husband. She is survived by her loving daughter, Elizabeth F. Casmas of Lansdale; her brother-in-law, Richard T. Fling and his wife Norma of Audubon, PA; her three nephews, William J. Fling (Kathy), David H. Fling (Laura), and Robert M. Fling (Kelly); several grand nephews and nieces and two great-grand nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her son, Graham J. Fling III. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial service at 11:00AM on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Wentz's United Church of Christ, 3246 Skippack Pike, Lansdale, PA 19446.
