S. Johnson Obituary

S. Edward Johnson of Yardley, PA died Saturday June 11, 2016 at Chandler Hall in Newtown PA. He was 94. Born in White Horse, Hamilton Township, NJ, a son of the late Louis and Ella Moffett Johnson, he moved to Yardley in 1953 and would be seen scraping and painting his house and smoking his cigar all summer long. He was graduated from Hamilton High School West. Ed was a true athlete he was invited to try out with the Brooklyn Dodgers but his family was more important to him. He played football with the Trenton Eagles, Red Raiders and Fallsington Alumni. Ed is a member of the hole in one club at the Neshaminy Valley Golf Course. Golf was a true passion with Ed. He worked for 42 years on the Railroad Reading and then Conrail. He proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II from 1942 to 1945. Ed was elected Mayor of Yardley Borough and proudly served the borough for 16 years 1990-2006 along with his duties as mayor he had the honor to marry over 500 couples. Longtime member of The American Legion, Mason’s, Yardley Community Centre and Yardley Methodist Church where he served as a greeter and usher on many Sundays. Husband of the late Rose Carnevale Johnson, his wife of 70 years and the love of his life, and brother of the late Louis Johnson, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Judy Johnson of Adamsville, TN, Sam and Doreen Johnson of Morrisville, PA, and Rob and Paula Johnson of Yardley, PA; 12 grandchildren, Ben, Zach, Sam, Matt, Allison, Kimberly, Brent, Micah, Gabby, Austin, Dalton, and Maddie, and 4 great grandchildren, Makenzie, Avery, Jaxon, and Sam. A special thank you to Pops devoted caregiver Slava at Chandler Hall who he loved like his own. Also thank you to the wonderful hospice nurses and all the aids who allowed him to live his final days with dignity grace and comfort. Friends may call from 5pm to 8pm Wednesday at the FitzGerald-Sommer Funeral Home, 17 S. Delaware Avenue (River Road), Yardley. Funeral service will be on Thursday at 11am at the Yardley United Methodist Church, 300 Langhorne Road, Yardley. Interment will follow at Newtown Cemetery, Newtown, PA. In lieu of flower the family is requesting donations in Ed’s name to either Yardley United Methodist Church or The Sons of the American Legion Flag Fund, c/o American Legion Post 317, 215 S.
