George Porter George K. Porter, Jr. a resident of Maple Glen for the past 50 years, passed away on December 30, 2012. He was 79. George was the loving husband of Patricia (Null) Porter. Prior to living in Maple Glen, the couple had lived in Sellersville. Born in Philadelphia, George was a son of the late Kathryn (Magee) and George K. Porter, Sr. George grew up in Hatboro and was a graduate of Hatboro-Horsham High School, class of 1951. He later attended Penn State University receiving an associates degree in instrumentation in 1961. George was proud to have served with the US Army during the Korean War. George was an owner of the Porter Instrument Company. He held six US and foreign patents which help grow the company. George retired as executive vice-president at the age of 72 when the company was bought by Parker Hannifin Corporation. George loved antique cars and was a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America. He was also a member of the Instrument Society of America. In addition to his wife, George is survived by a son Gary Porter and his wife Claire of Ambler, a daughter Susan Rosenbaum and her husband Bruce of Fort Washington and 3 grandchildren, Sarah Rosenbaum and Shannon and Catherine Porter. He is also survived by a brother Gary Porter and his wife Cynthia. George was preceded in death by his sister, Jeanne Moyer. George was well loved by all who knew him. He was one of the sweetest people a person could know. Relatives and friends were invited to George's funeral service, Monday, January 7, at the Shelly Funeral Home, 1460 Easton Road, Warrington, where the family received friends until the time of service. Interment was in Whitemarsh Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Porter Institute for Valvular Heart Disease at Abington Hospital, 1200 Old York Rd, 5 Toll, Abington, PA 19001.
