Obituary Condolences

Abram Landis Abram C. Landis, age 89, formerly of Harleysville, died in his sleep, Tues., Dec. 13 at Souderton Mennonite Homes. He was the husband of Grace G. (Derstine) Landis, his faithful companion and friend, for 67 years. Born in Harleysville, on the family farm, he was the son of the late Levi A. and Fannie N. (Clemens) Landis. Abe and his brother Levi owned Landis Bros. Turkey Farm, Harleysville, after which time he began working for H. W. Longacre, Inc., Franconia, a poultry processor, for whom he worked 27 years. His last employer was Salford Mennonite Church where he cared for the church and the grounds, including the management of the cemetery and Salford's Child Care Center, where he was affectionately known as Mr. Abe. He was a lifelong member of Salford Mennonite Church and for many years a member of the Harleysville Ambulance Assoc. Abe was an enthusiastic coin collector, who also enjoyed collecting stamps, post cards and antiques. He was one of the earliest Phillies fans, going back to Baker Bowl Park, where he attended games when he was 13 years old. He was an avid hunter, until the age of 80. Abe planted acres of corn and tomatoes, known for their quality, which were sold to local supermarkets and deli's. Abe and Grace left the farm, on which he was born, to move to Souderton Mennonite Homes, in 2003. He is survived by seven children: Phyllis Goshow of Telford, Sarajane Kulp of Sellersville, Alan Landis of Souderton, Brenda Sauers and husband Brett of Lansdale, Dwight Landis of Souderton, Bruce Landis and his wife Linda of Souderton and Jeffrey Landis and wife Deborah of Telford, his sisters: Martha Blank of Souderton, Mary Clemens and husband Walter of York, PA and Elizabeth Musselman and sister-in-law Lorraine Landis, both of Souderton, Brother-in-law Earl Frankenfield and wife Irene of Harleysville, 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grand children. He was preceded in death by his brother Levi C. Landis and sisters Sarah Landes and Susan Frankenfield. The family will receive friends Sat., Dec. 17, from 10AM-12noon in Souderton Mennonite Home's Summit View Auditorium. The funeral service will take place Sun., Dec. 18, 4:00PM at Salford Mennonite Church, 480 Groff's Mill Road, Harleysville, where viewing will take place from 1:30-3:30PM. Interment will take place in the church's cemetery, Monday., 11:00AM.
