Floyd K. Alderfer age 82, a Harleysville business owner, developer, and community leader, died suddenly Saturday, October 5, at Soldiers and Sailors Hospital in Wellsboro, PA. He was the husband of Elizabeth A. "Betty" (Ott) Alderfer for 63 years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Born in Harleysville, he was the son of the late Abram A. and Elizabeth (Kulp) Alderfer. At age 19, Floyd began a business in Wayne called Floyd K. Alderfer Meats, which was based in Harleysville. He then incorporated into Floyd K. Alderfer & Sons, Inc. Sixty-two years later he closed the business in the Lancaster County Farmer's Market at age 81. As a young man, Floyd played football for the former Kulpsville Owls and baseball in the Perkiomen Valley Twilight League. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and Philadelphia sports fan, especially when it came to the Eagles. He also supported his children and grandchildren in every activity that they participated in. Floyd was an active member of St. Peter's Covenant Church in Hilltown where he also taught Sunday school. He was a life member and past president of Harleysville Lions Club, a life member and past chief of Harleysville Volunteer Fire Co., and a life member of Bonnell Run Hunting and Fishing Club in Pine Township, Lycoming County. Floyd helped to establish the Harleysville Community Center and coached the Souderton Midget Peewee Football team and the Harleysville Knee-Hi Baseball team. Above all else, Floyd's lasting legacy is the number of lives he has touched. He is an inspiration to all of those who knew him. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: Dennis R. Alderfer and wife Susan G. of Perkiomenville; Floyd Keith Alderfer and wife Linda L. of Harleysville; Dawn Alderfer Powers and husband Leslie R. of New Britain; six grandchildren: Zachary R. Alderfer and wife Stephanie; Aaron K. Alderfer and wife Stephanie; Courtney A. Alderfer; Kristin E. McMahon and husband Michael; Gretchen E. McFarland and husband Sean; Andria L. Powers; two great-grandchildren: Keira E. McMahon and Charlotte Rose Alderfer; brother A. Ferrill K. Alderfer and wife Elaine; and sister Carolyn Sue (Alderfer) Glazier and husband Fredrick II. Relatives and friends are invited to greet Floyd's family on Sunday, October 13 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at Williams-Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home located at 667 Harleysville Pike, Telford, Franconia Twp. The family will hold a private funeral and burial.
