George Louis Schiel October 10, 1916 - April 28, 2012 George L. schiel, born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October 10, 1916, died on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the age of 95. He is survived by his loving wife, jane B. Schiel, his two children, Mary jane Kirkpatric and Arthur Schile, his daughter-in-law, Lisa Schiel, as well as five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. George graduated from LeHigh University in 1938 with a BS and MS degree in metallurgical engineering. He was head metallurgist and Metlab Company in Wyndmoor where he worked on the program to put man in space and heat treating the first spacecraft shield. George also served as a Lt. Colnel in WWII in Ordinance and Weapons Manufacturing. George and his family lived in Glenside, PA and summered in Avalon, NJ. He was actively involved in Carmel Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. George most currently resided in Meadowwood Retirement Community for the last 24 years with his wife. He was happily married for 68 years and he and Jane were known as world travelers. A private service for the family will be held at Northwood Cemetery.
