Giles M. Crabtree Obituary
Giles M. Crabtree Died January 4, 2014 at his residence in Lewisburg, PA., where he had lived for the last years. Mr. Crabtree was a of the Philadelphia area for 40 years. Having moved to the area In 1954. He was born in Peoria, Illinois and was son of the late Martin J. and Mildred (Yates) Crabtree. He served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946 and was stationed in the Pacific theater. He graduated from Michigan Tech in 1950 with a BS in Electrical Engineering. He worked for Brown Instrument (later to become a part of Honeywell Corp,) from 1952-1959. In 1954 the company moved him from Illinois to the Philadelphia area. In 1959 he went to work for American Meter Company and remained then; until his retirement in 1992. During his tenure at American Meter, he worked in product development and retired as the Director of Training. During that time, he also did part-time teaching at Montgomery County Community College, Spring Garden College; and Temple University. He was a former member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Glenside for over 20 years, He was the committee chair for Troop 48 of the Boy Scouts of America that met at the church. He was a life member of the American Legion Post # 182 in Lewisburg, PA. For 10 years, he sold antiques in Lewisburg. He enjoyed .ham radio, target shooting, was an avid reader, and liked to travel, but his biggest love were his grandchildren. Mr. Crabtree is survived by two sons Martin (Beverly Asselstein) of Hightstown, NJ and Carl of Ridley, PA., two grandchildren Nathaniel and Vera. and one brother Harold of Morton, IL. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Monday 10 AM, followed by his funeral service at 11 AM at John R. Freed Funeral Home, Inc., 124 N. Easton Rd., Glenside PA, 19038, Interment will be in Forest Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Giles name to The Radio Club of Junior High School 22, N. Y, C, Inc.
