Obituary Condolences

Funeral mass for James "Jim" Anthony Carney, 65, of Lawton, Oklahoma was held Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Philip Seeton, pastor and Deacon Jim Coe officiating. A wake service was held on Friday, May 17, 2013 at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon David Bunch, officiating. Mr. Carney passed away surrounded by his loving wife, children and grandchildren on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma after a long illness due to brain anoxia. Jim was born on March 1, 1948 in Abington, Pennsylvania to Thomas and Louisa (D'Agunta) Carney. He grew up in Ambler, Pennsylvania where he attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and he graduated from St. Matthew's Catholic School in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania in June 1966. He joined the United States Army in April 1968 serving his country proudly for eleven years serving many duty stations overseas and state side. Jim was honorably discharged on April 1979 at Fort Sill and made Lawton his home. James married Mary Elizabeth Schumann, his childhood sweetheart since the second grade, on July 8, 1967 in North Wales, Pennsylvania. He attended Cameron University where he graduated with a BS in Business Management on May 5, 1984. James worked as a Market Analyst for Southern Sales until his retirement on February 23, 2011. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus where he was a 4th Degree Knight. Jim liked riding bikes where he rode in the Hotter than Hell race several years. Watching Nascar, rooting for the Miller number 2 car. He enjoyed traveling and spending time at home with his wife and family. Mr. Carney is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Beth, of the home; children, Kevin Carnery and his wife, Mary, of Lawton, Oklahoma, Brian Carney, of Lawton, Oklahoma, Peggy Jensen and her husband, David, of Altus, Oklahoma, and Allen Carney and his wife, Kimberly, of Tulsa; brother, Thomas Carney and his wife, Mary Ann, of North Wales, Pennsylvania; sisters, Mary Lou Creek, and her husband, Thomas of Livermore, California, Margaret Bevins, of El Paso, Texas, and Patricia Carney, of Fremont, California; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Carney of Marshall, Texas, Michael Carney, of Lawton, Oklahoma, Matthew Jensen , Altus, Oklahoma, Christopher Johnson, Jimmie Johnson, Kara Sutter, all of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Gwendolyn Buckendolf, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. In Lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to Holy Family Catholic Church Narthex-Parking Lot and Chapel Building Fund at 1010 NW 82nd Street, Lawton, OK 73505
