James Hellerman Obituary

James I. Hellerman, III "Jim," 88, formerly of Sellersville, Bucks County, PA, passed away at the home of his daughter, Nancy J. Eagles, on February 1, 2012, at 9:20 a.m., after a year-long battle with lung cancer. He was the husband of Helen D. (Shulick) Hellerman; together they celebrated 65 years of marriage this past October. Jim was born in Almont, PA, on June 2, 1923, and was one of five children of the late James I. Hellerman, II, and the late Emma (LeVay) Hellerman. He served in the Philippine Islands at the end of WWII and in the 5th Infantry Division of the Army during the Korean War. After the war, he was employed by the US Gauge, Sellersville, before taking courses for blueprint reading. For several years, Jim was self-employed as a master carpenter and builder of homes, paying attention to detail and exceptional craftsmanship not often seen today. Later he was a supervisor for large construction projects such as churches, car dealerships, factories, and nursing homes with C. Raymond Lukens and Penn Builders, where he received several awards. He enjoyed hunting for small game and deer. He and his wife also enjoyed growing a large vegetable garden each year as well as caring for the beautiful flower gardens surrounding their home. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and teaching them some tricks of his trade. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Patricia A. Krieger and husband Michael of Hanover, his daughter, Nancy J. Eagles of East Berlin, his daughter Dr. Pamela H. Rutkoski and her husband Tim of Montgomery, and his son James I. IV and his wife Brenda of Harleysville; and five grandchildren, Daniel Stump of York, Rachael and Jason Rutkoski of Montgomery, and Allison and Eric Hellerman of Harleysville. He was predeceased by two brothers, Howard Hellerman and Earl Hellerman, and two sisters, Margaret (Hellerman) Brown and Lillian (Hellerman) Jurin. The family wishes to thank the staff of the VNA/Hospice, Hanover, PA, and the staff of Visiting Angels, Hanover, PA, for their assistance, caring, and compassion during this difficult time; many of his caregivers felt like part of the family. Per Jim's request, there will be no public viewing or service. Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 549 Carlisle St, Hanover, is in charge of his cremation.
