Robert Aston Linde Obituary
Robert Ashton Linde passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at the Meadows at Shannondell in Audubon, PA. Prior to living at Shannondell, Bob and his wife Helen lived and raised a family in Oreland and then Bob designed and built his dream home in Ambler. Bob was born in Ambler on August 5, 1923 to the late Mary Ashton Madden and Shirley Madden. He joined the Lighthouse Boy's Soccer Club at the age of 8 and his lifelong passion for soccer was born. Bob graduated from Northeast High School in Philadelphia in 1942 and then served in WWII in the Army Air Force stationed in England as an Air Transport Technician. After being honorably discharged in 1946, he enrolled at Drexel University. Bob was the Co-Captain and starting center-forward of the Drexel Soccer team for four years, led the team in scoring each of those four years, and in 1950, was the highest scorer in the nation. He was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity, graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1951 and was inducted into Drexel's Hall of Fame in 1989. Bob worked as a Superintendent/Engineer at Philadelphia Gas Works retiring in 1986. He was a longtime member of Oreland Presbyterian Church. Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years Helen Donaldson Linde of Audubon, daughter Barbara Linde Wilchek (John) of Macungie, son David S. Linde (Mary Beth) of Elizabethtown, grandchildren Lauren M. Wilchek, John W. Wilchek, III and KatherineWilchek Quraishi. He was predeceased by his sister Ruth Forrest and brother David Madden. A Celebration of Life will be held at the convenience of the family with internment at West Laurel Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bob's memory would be appreciated.
