Russell M. Detweiler

Obituary Condolences

Russell M. Detweiler, age 83, of Sellersville, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 29, on his family's farm. He was the husband of Evelyn L. (Bergey), with whom he celebrated 62 years of marriage on May 21, 2011. Born August 25, 1928, at home, he was the son of the late Norman A. and Sallie (Moyer) Detweiler. Russell graduated from the former Sell-Perk High School in 1946. Russ worked in construction for approximately 35 years, then for nearly 30 years he Pastored at Rockhill, Franconia, Eden and Towamencin Mennonite churches. He also recorded the weekly Sunday School lessons which were broadcast on the radio for Sunday School Meditations. He was a lifetime member of Rockhill Mennonite Church, and a longtime member of Gideon's International. During retirement he loved spending time at their home in Honey Brook and spending time with family and friends. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: Glenda Moyer and husband Phil of Souderton, Julie Gotwals and husband Brent of Telford, James Detweiler and wife Yvonne of Sellersville, 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, siblings Lorene Derstine of DeLand, FL, Merrill M. Detweiler and wife Suzanne, of Sellersville, Gladys Nice, wife of Curtis Nice, Telford, and one sister-in-law Cora Detweiler of Telford. He was preceded in death by his brother Donald M. Detweiler and brother-in-law Joseph Derstine. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Fri., Nov 4, at Towamencin Mennonite Church, 1980 Sumneytown Pike, Kulpsville 19443, where visitation will take place from 2-4pm and 5-7pm, followed by the service at 7:30. A private burial will take place at Rockhill Mennonite Church. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made in Russell's name to Caring Hospice, 400 Commerce Drive, Ft.
