Shirley Gilbert Obituary

Shirley "Shirl" M. Gilbert Of Sellersville, PA, died Friday, October 22, 2010, at her home after a brief illness. She was 65. She was the wife of 48 years of George L. Gilbert. Born in Sellersville, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Marian E. (Benfield) Barndt. Her love for her family was unending. She loved to plan vacation holidays and to take the grandchildren along. She also enjoyed spending time in Ocean City, NJ. Shirl owned and operated her beauty salon in Perkasie for more than 35 years. She was a founding member of the Perkasie Olde Towne Association. Surviving with her husband are two sons, Christopher Gilbert and his wife Wendy, of Perkasie, PA, and Cary Gilbert, of Sellersville; five grandchildren, Erin and Daniel Gilbert, of Sellersville, George Christopher Gilbert, of Hilltown, PA, Marcus Smith, of Perkasie, PA, and Carrie Ghormley and her husband Chris, of Hilltown; a sister, Gladys E. Barndt, of Sellersville; and a brother, Kenneth L. Barndt and his wife Joyce, of Perkasie. She was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Barndt. She requested that her body be donated to science. Family and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Services to be held Saturday, November 6, 2010, at 1:30 PM in St. Andrew's United Church of Christ, 615 East Walnut Street, Perkasie. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jane Goodall Institute for Gorilla Research, The Pacific Whale Foundation, Maui, Hawaii, or to Orca Research, San Juan Island, Washington State.
