Obituary Condolences

William A. McFarland 64, of Collegeville and formerly of Ambler, died Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Montgomery Hospital after a valiant battle with cancer. He was the husband of Hilda L. (Yale) McFarland, his wife of 40 years. Born December 13, 1947 in Conshohocken, he was a son of David W. McFarland, Sr., of Harleysville, and the late Ann (McAvoy) McFarland. Bill was employed as a supervisor with Philadelphia Gear in King of Prussia for over thirty years. He later worked in the same capacity for Schutte & Koerting in Bensalem and Alessi Manufacturing in Collingdale. During this time, he also served in the US Army Reserves for over twenty years. In his younger years, Bill was involved in the Boy Scouts and was proud to have attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He was also the lead singer and guitarist for the Wissahickon Folk Singers. Throughout his life, he was an avid fisherman. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his daughters, Laura A. Bickle and husband David of Wayne, and Joy A. McFarland of Norristown; his brother, David W. McFarland, Jr. and wife Diane F. of Schwenksville; his granddaughter, Morgan S. Bickle; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Jesse. The Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. January 21, 2012 at Wentz's UCC, 3246 Skippack Pike, Lansdale. Relatives and friends may call after 10 a.m. Burial will be private.
