William Watkins Avera Obituary
William Watkins Avera, 87, of Blue Bell, formerly of Oreland, died peacefully Tuesday, May 6, 2014. He was the loving husband of Joan Kenyon Avera. Born April 12, 1927 in Winston-Salem, NC, Will was the middle child of seven to the late John William and Mildred (nee Watkins) Avera. He was raised in a loving family, proudly served his country in the US Army and attended the University of Miami before returning to Winston-Salem where he met and later married, Joan. Will was a career Allstate Insurance Agent and later managed his own Allstate Agency in Oreland. He was also longtime member of Christ's Lutheran Church, Oreland. He was very active in the Huntingdon Valley Ski Club, Abington Submariners, his bicycle club, and enjoyed swimming and racquetball at the Abington YMCA. Will loved summer days spent at Crystal Lake, Carbondale, swimming, boating, and making memories with his family. He was a loving father to Susan Avera Remmey and William A. Avera; loving grandfather to Lindsay Remmey DeLong (Eugene), and Bennett William Remmey (Courtney); great grandfather to Molly and Owen DeLong, and Catherine Remmey. Brother of Charles (Marion) and Talcott Avera (Monta). He was predeceased by siblings, John Avera (Doris), Flora Avera Urban (Don), Mildred Avera, Joseph Conrad Avera (Theresa). Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale
