Jean C. Griswold

Jean C. Griswold, 86, a resident of Meadowood Retirement Community in Worcester, Pennsylvania passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Einstein-Montgomery Hospital. Dr. Griswold was born July 30, 1930 in New York City to Guede Coghlan, one of Teddy Roosevelt’s Rough Riders, a member of the US Polo Team and an executive of the Moon Car Company, and Irene Secord Coghlan of Brandford, Ontario. She was married to the Rev. Dr. Lincoln T. Griswold on June 11, 1955 in Summit, New Jersey, a love story which lasted 61 years until her husband pre-deceased her on May 8, 2016. She is survived by her three sons Scott (Sharon), Kent (Lori) and Kirk (Lynn), and 7 grandchildren, Clayton, Jillian, Kaela, Grant, Scott, Alexandra and Nicholas. In 1982, Dr. Griswold founded Special Care which later became Griswold Home Care, the World’s Oldest Multi-National Non-Medical Home Care Company with hundreds of offices and over 10,000 professional caregivers, throughout the United States and in Mexico and South Korea. She has been featured on The Today Show, and in Forbes Magazine, Entrepreneur Magazine and numerous other publications and has received countless awards recognizing her tireless efforts to help those in need of supportive care and opportunities for meaningful work. She also founded Pop-Ins, Home Helpers, House Call Unlimited, Nurses Aides of North America and Nursing Options Worldwide. Remarkably, she did much of this from a wheelchair, the result of a 50 year battle with Multiple Sclerosis and worked actively in the office until the age of 79. In 2013 she published her book Fears of the Elderly. She is a graduate of Kent Place School, Summit, NJ, Douglass College (BA-Economics and Business), Rutgers University (M.Ed-Personnel and Guidance) and was bestowed an Honorary Doctorate from Holy Family University in 2006. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:30 PM, Saturday, February 11th in the Strasburg Auditorium at Meadowood, 3205 Skippack Pike, Worcester, PA following a private burial service.
