Betty Melville Betty Strom Melville, 83, formerly of Roslyn, PA, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland, PA where she had lived since August 2005. She was born Betty Jean Strom on May 7, 1929 in Greenwood, SC, and was the eldest daughter of the late Thomas E. Strom and the late Lula Ballantine (Smiley) Strom. Her family moved to Kingstree, SC where Betty spent much of her youth. She attended the University of South Carolina. Betty was employed for more than 30 years at various businesses in Administrative and Accounting positions. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Betty spent much time volunteering at the election polls, her church, the Roslyn Free Library and Meals on Wheels. Betty was elected multiple times to the Board of Commissioners of Abington Township where she served for 16 years. On January 11, 1996, she was honored with a certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from the members of the United States Congress for her outstanding and invaluable service to her community. She is survived by one son, William B. Melville Jr. and his wife, Diane Grace Melville of Schwenksville, PA; one daughter, Elizabeth Melville Magill and her husband, John T. Magill III MD of Lewisburg, PA; five grandchildren, Christopher T. Melville, Daniel S. Melville, Amy Magill Davis, Peter W. Magill and Thomas M. Magill; one grandson-in-law, Thaddeus A. Davis; three great-grandchildren, Anaya C. Davis, Jeremiah C. Davis and Liana M. Davis; one sister, Margaret S. Moody of Greenville, SC; and five nieces along with their families. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine S. Brice; a brother-in-law, Boyce S. Brice MD; and a niece, Mary-Jo B. Wittmeier. A memorial service to celebrate Betty's life will be held at noon on Saturday, October 27, 2012, at the Reformed Church of Willow Grove, 1400 North Hills Avenue, Willow Grove, PA 19090. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Betty's memory be made to the Reformed Church of Willow Grove or the Roslyn Free Library, 2412 Avondale Ave., Roslyn, PA 19001.
