Obituary Condolences

Francis Joseph Porter of Ambler, died on Monday, November 18, 2013. He was 97. He was the husband of the late Florence Kehrer Porter who died in 1993 and the late Mary S. Vanderherchen Porter who died in 1990. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Julia Porter and Anthony Petrasso. Francis was a graduate of West Catholic High School for Boys. He received a BA from Catholic University in Washington, DC and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He taught English at West Philadelphia Boys High School, Central District Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, LaSalle College High school and Burlington City High School in New Jersey, where he served as department head. He also substitute taught at Wissahickon High School in Ambler. Francis had lived in Vero Beach, Florida for many years. Surviving are his step-daughters: Joanne V. Fulcoly and Barbara V. Gilkerson (Ralph). Also surviving are his grandchildren: Juanelle F. Mochel (Toby), Joseph E. Fulcoly, III (Therese), John S. Fulcoly (Debra), Gail F. Barr (John), Jo Ellen Cockley (Jon Payne) and Andrew N. Cockley (Julie), as well as eight great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister. Relatives and friends are invited to his memorial service at 3 p.m., Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Church of the Messiah, 1001 DeKalb Pike, Lower Gwynedd, PA. Interment will follow in Church of the Messiah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Francis's name may be made to: , 1626 Locust St. Philadelphia, PA 19103.
