Fern C. Heavener

Obituary Condolences

Fern C. Heavener (nee Phillips), 91, died at her home in Wayne on December 9. She was born in Sellersville, Bucks County, the daughter of Francis and Elsie (nee Kehs) Phillips. She is predeceased by her husband, Paul A. Heavener, and two brothers, Donald and Harold Phillips. Valedictorian of her class at Sellersville-Perkasie High School, she went on to take classes at Penn State University. She worked as an administrative assistant for several Main Line firms as well as the non-profit Boy Scouts of America. Fern loved to cook, garden, walk, arrange flowers, play scrabble, do word puzzles, keep up with the news and spend time with her grandchildren. Fern and her late husband of 67 years enjoyed playing cards, ping pong, square dancing and traveling. They visited each of the continental 48 states in their travel trailer. She also won contests for writing slogans, jingles and amusing anecdotes and was published in Reader's Digest, Woman's World and Lady's Circle. She is survived by a son, Michael P. Heavener, of Bryn Mawr, and a daughter, Jane E. Smith, of Fairfax, VA. She also leaves behind three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Memorial service and internment will be private.
